The founder of Huawei says the Chinese tech giant is moving its USA research center to Canada due to American restrictions on its activities.
Huawei's centre for research and development "will be moved out of the United States and will be relocated to Canada", Ren told the Globe and Mail.
Huawei is one of the biggest global makers of smartphones and network gear for phone companies.
In November, the USA government granted a 90-day reprieve to companies in rural parts of the country that buy equipment from Huawei.
Canada, which Ren previously described as a suitable alternative to the US, is now home to his daughter, Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou, whom Canada detained a year ago on fraud charges at the request of USA prosecutors.
Ren gave no details of how many jobs might be affected.
