At least 40 members of the Irish Farmers Association are protesting at Aldi Distribution Centre, Newbridge Road, Naas.

"Farmers won't accept any more stalling or a Mickey Mouse price increase".

MEMBERS of the Irish Farmers Association have begun a blockade at the Lidl distribution centre near Charleville as the row over beef prices continues. "We need a new dynamic, because where we are is clearly not working", he added.

It said: "We welcomed the resumption of the Beef Taskforce this week and have engaged positively with farmer representative organisations on the beef issue over recent months".

They've warned that unless beef prices increase, more protests will be carried out.

At 7am on Thursday morning, dozens of Irish farmers, with their tractors, stationed themselves at the entrance of the distribution centre, preventing trucks from entering and leaving, grinding the supermarket's delivery lines to a halt.

"The Beef Taskforce met on Tuesday and Joe Healy and the IFA were fully aware that market indications pointed towards a cattle price increase in Ireland".

North Korea says denuclearisation 'gone out of the negotiation table'
Yesterday, North Korea's first vice foreign minister, Choe Son Hui, issued a warning threatening to resume insults of U.S. Both agreed, the Blue House said in a statement, that a dialogue needed to continue in order to achieve denuclearization.

"Our work also includes a complete review of procedures and processes with our suppliers to ensure we are meeting all customer and market requirements". "This and further threatened blockading activity are an expression of internal farm organisation politics playing out in the form of disruption of businesses".

It says beef farmers are incurring losses of 6 million euro a week, while cattle prices are increasing in key European Union export markets and in the UK.

Latest: The Irish Farmers' Association says protests will continue until there's a significant increase in the price of beef. "If so, why are we not all in a room right now looking to agree one?" asked Mr Coughlan.

Prices have steadily slipped since 2017, and there are fears among farmers the domestic beef industry is at risk. Farmers do not need a stop-start talking shop, they need action.

Although an Aldi spokesperson confirmed that there was no disruption to any stores, trade body Meat Industry Ireland (MII) labelled the blockades "an irresponsible and completely unjustified stunt".

"The message is simple: these farmers have to get an immediate price rise", said Mr Healy. "The only people who benefit from delays are meat barons who are pocketing the additional margin which independent analysis shows is in the market".

The Beef Task Force meeting held earlier in the week had left farmers feeling insulted.
