It's finally Jimmy Garoppolo time in San Francisco, 49ers fans.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan met with the quarterbacks to inform them of the change, and is expected to address the decision with reporters on Wednesday.

Rookie C.J. Beathard hurt his hip and knee and was forced out of Sunday's loss to Seattle in the fourth quarter.

Garoppolo was frequently linked with the Bears this offseason during their own quarterback search, and he made his 49ers debut late last week against the Seattle Seahawks, when he went 2-of-2 for 18 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers (1-10) play Sunday against the Chicago Bears (3-8) in Soldier Field, located about 30 miles from Garoppolo's hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois. "That's up to Jimmy and how it works out here and we're going to work our best to get him ready". Beathard was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Garoppolo would have likely commanded top dollar on the open market after impressing during his brief playing time in Brady's stead. He most notably threw 42-for-59 (71.2 percent) for 496 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions in two starts during the 2016 season, posting a 119 passer rating.
