  • Moscow warns U.S. of retaliation against Congress ban on RT America

According to the AP, senior Russian lawmakers said that USA correspondents working in Russia could lose their press access to Russian government agencies and parliament in response to the decision to revoke RT's Capitol Hill credentials.

The action also comes just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed legislation allowing Russia to register worldwide media outlets as foreign agents, an act seen as the Kremlin's retaliation for the Trump administration decision on RT.

The commission of journalists who decide on the allocation of accreditations for the Congress, told RT that the "pass" has been withdrawn after a unanimous vote.

Caplan, the chairman of that committee, wrote that gallery rules "state clearly that news credentials may not be issued to any applicant employed by 'any foreign government or representative thereof.'" He said the FARA registration made the network ineligible to hold news credentials, and their withdrawal is effective immediately.

The u.s. department of Justice had requested RT in September to register as an "agent of the alien" after the american intelligence had estimated that the chain was "the main medium of global propaganda of the Kremlin".

The U.S. intelligence community has alleged that RT was used by the Russian government as part of a campaign to influence and disrupt the 2016 presidential election.

Washington has been accusing Russian media, including RT and Sputnik, of influencing public opinion during the 2016 US presidential election, while Moscow claims that they are being oppressed by USA authorities.
