United Kingdom 'close to Irish border solution' post-Brexit

The British Government is reportedly close to reaching a solution on the Irish border after Brexit.

"We are looking for significantly more clarity than we now have from the British negotiating team", Coveney told parliament in Dublin, adding that "constructive ambiguity" from Britain would not suffice.

He said he was confident that no veto would be cast at the mid-December summit. "If it is not possible to do that, so be it".

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Wednesday that progress had been made in talks on the issue, though it was not yet sufficient.

Barnier said on Wednesday the summit would be able to discuss a transition period and that the European Union would define a "framework" next year of the "new partnership" with Britain that would follow the transition.
