President Trump is expected next month to once again delay the decision to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which was a major campaign promise.
US President Donald Trump is seemingly closer than ever to announcing that the American Embassy in Israel will move to Jerusalem, a statement that could stoke tensions in the region.
Trump's announcement is expected next week and follows months of internal deliberations that grew particularly intense in recent days, according to officials familiar with the talks.
Palestinians argued that East Jerusalem should be their capital for a future independent state while Israel says that all of Jerusalem belongs to them.
While the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act requires that the USA officially move the embassy to the holy city, every president since the act was passed has delayed the actual move.
That disputed territory status has put Jerusalem at the center of resolving the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
"No decision on this matter has been made yet", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Thursday.

Teva addresses 'internal inefficiencies' with restructuring
A 25% cut staff located in Israel, along with a 10% reduction for employees at its USA operations is painful but necessary. Last week Calcalist reported that Teva will axe thousands of jobs in the USA and Israel as part of its upcoming rehaul.
Though a final decision still needs to be made and debate continues within the administration, officials from countries closely allied to the U.S. say a plan under consideration would have Trump announce he is signing the waiver for the last time, giving the administration time to plan the transition of its diplomatic mission.
The waiver must be signed every six months in order to retain State Department funding for the embassy's facilities, and, despite Trump signing the previous waiver in June, the president was this week said to be considering permitting an embassy move to Jerusalem.
Trump's approach appears to thread a fine needle, much like he did with the Iran nuclear deal. But he didn't announce new sanctions or take any other step to immediately revoke the accord.
Trump pledged on the campaign trail a year ago that he would move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a long-time goal of Republican politicians.
Diplomatic missions around the Muslim world were reportedly told to be wary of possible protests next week when an announcement on the embassy and Israeli capital is likely to come.
The U.S. also faces legal constraints.
