ICC unveils inaugural World Test Championship schedule

England (eight times), India (six), West Indies (five), South Africa (five), Pakistan (four) and Sri Lanka (two) have all featured since then.

The nine top-ranked sides will play six test series in a two-year cycle, with the two top-ranked sides progressing to the June 2021 final for the World Test Championship. The matches scheduled for tournaments including Asia Cup and ICC events aren't included in these calculations.

New Zealand Cricket confirmed their team will face Australia at the MCG on Boxing Day next year as part of a three-test, three-ODI series across the Tasman.

They don't, of course, have a single series against India but another complicated geopolitical relationship with a neighbour - Afghanistan - will be given an airing - as they play three ODIs in Afghanistan's home ground in September 2021 as part of the ODI league. However, the venues of these matches are subject to confirmation. The final of this cycle may take place at the Lord's in July 2021.

New Zealand's next global series is against Pakistan including three tests in the United Arab Emirates, starting in October, while Sri Lanka (two tests, three ODIs, one T20), India (five ODIs, three T20s) and Bangladesh (three tests, three ODIs) are touring this summer. South Africa will kick start their campaign in India in October 2019. As per the new FTP, the ICC has kept the Ashes under the new Test championship.

The latter culminates in the inaugural World Test Championship final in England in June 2021. All bilateral Tests, ODIs and T20Is outside of the above competitions.

Cricket Ireland also told RTÉ Sport that they waiting for confirmation from the England and Wales Cricket Board regarding an away Test match next year but rate the fixture as "likely".
