Markle's husband, Prince Harry, wore his purple and white pin, though, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge followed the tradition past year. Royal Ascot is a tradition going back centuries - and has its roots with the royal family.

While her husband went the traditional route, in a top hat and tails, the duchess opted for a collared, button-down dress in ivory, which featured a black belt.

The Countess of Wessex, was one of the only royal ladies to wear her name tag (and it clashed).
