Phillie Phanatic's hot dog cannon sends Phillies fan to emergency room

"It just came out of nowhere".

A woman has made a trip to the emergency room after being hit by a hotdog shot out of a cannon by large green bird at a baseball game. "And then the next thing I know he shot it in our direction, and bam!"

McVay told WPVI television that a pre-existing shoulder injury prevented her from batting away the hot dog, which knocked off her eyeglasses.

It was a flying frankfurter and not a foul ball that left a baseball fan with a black eye in Philadelphia.

As we learned from Bloomquist's story, McVay headed to hospital where doctors carried out a CAT scan to make sure she hadn't suffered a concussion. "And hard", said the victim, Kathy McVay.

CBSSports.com's Dayn Perry says this was no laughing matter, writing, "Yikes". McVay said she has a small hematoma in her eye, and that her face is sore and must be iced throughout the day. "Just to be aware, because you never know. It's going to go down the side of my face".

McVay doesn't plan to take legal action against the Phillies and seems to be taking the injury with a good sense of humor.

McVay has a message for fans at future games so they avoid meeting a similar fate.

McVay was seated behind home plate when the Phanatic rolled onto the field on a mobile hot dog launcher, as he (it?) has been doing for over a decade.

Per the report, the Phillies did reach out to McVay to apologize and "the Phanatic feels bad about what happened" (although we're not exactly sure how he explained that sentiment). "It gives people a good laugh, and if that makes somebody chuckle, then that's fine".
