Telstra hit by more mobile outages

As reported by News Corp Australia, the disruptions saw mobile internet and voice services affected in a number of cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.

TELSTRA customers are facing yet another mobile phone outage amid reports the company's 3G and 4G networks are struggling to connect users in nearly all Australian capitals.

Global technology vendor Ericsson has taken responsibility for an outage that struck Telstra's wholesale operations, affecting users of ALDI and Woolworths mobile services.

"There was a vendor platform issue that impacted (MVNO) services for a small number of wholesale customers", the spokesman said.

"Ericsson today experienced an issue with the platform it provides to Telstra Wholesale to support its mobiles business".

"The majority of those services have already been restored".

Telstra later said services "returned to normal levels" but admitted at the time they did not know the root cause of the problem.

In a statement, the company revealed the software problem "triggered multiple elements across the network to fail" and even backup systems created to rescue the situation did not work.

Telstra has dismissed earlier claims that there was an issue with its wider 3G and 4G network.

Some customers had issues making phone calls and using their mobile data.
