  • TIME Magazine Cover Features President Trump with Sobbing Migrant Child

An upcoming Time magazine cover will be mash-up sure to spur passions in the nation's ongoing immigration debate.

The heading "Welcome to America" accompanies the photo, which TIME says asks the question, "What kind of a country are we?"

John Moore is a Pulitzer prize-winning photographer for Getty Images who has been photographing the border for over a decade. It shows a little girl sobbing while her mother is taken away to be searched. "This one was tough for me".

"As a father myself, it was very hard for me to see these families detained, knowing that they would soon be split up", Moore told Getty's blog Foto. Moore further said that he really wanted to "pick the girl up" at that moment but he couldn't.

Some users have noted Trump's past obsession with being on the cover of Time magazine, a preoccupation so intense that, at one point, he had fake Time covers hanging in at least four of his golf resorts.

"The test posed with Trump's "zero tolerance" policy is as much about our future as it is about the tragedy of the families separated by its implementation", Vick wrote for Time. Now - they're detained by border patrol.and could be separated.

Moore told the Post that in the dark he had not been able to count the number of women and children. The Associated Press quoted the Border Patrol as saying that close to 200 people inside the facility were minors, unaccompanied by a parent.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the mother and child are together.

Vick ventures into the tumultuous past two weeks of Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy on migrants trying to enter the border illegally and the separation of families that ensued. Since Attorney-General Jeff Sessions announced the policy, almost 2,000 children have been taken away from their parents.
