Harley-Davidson s'apprête-t-il à quitter les USA pour l'Europe?

Avec le pick-up V8, la Harley-Davidson est bien le symbole mécanique de l'Amérique profonde, celle qui vote Donald Trump et n'imagine pas toujours les répercussions d'une décision protectionniste.

Dans un communiqué publié lundi, Harley-Davidson déplore que les taxes douanières européennes soient passée de 6% à 31% sur ses motos entrant sur le marché européen, ce qui renchérit le prix au détail de chaque véhicule de 2200 dollars (2170 francs).

D'après les calculs de l'entreprise, cela débouchera sur une augmentation des dépenses comprise entre 30 et 45 millions de dollars rien que d'ici à 2019. La production de l'usine de York (Pennsylvanie), qui devait être renforcée, est désormais compromise.

Le constructeur de motos américain Harley-Davidson va transférer hors des États-Unis sa production de motos destinées à l'exportation afin d'échapper aux tarifs douaniers européens, instaurés par Bruxelles en représailles aux droits de douane américains sur l'acier.
