Stormy Daniels will meet federal prosecutors in NY on Monday as part of their investigation into the president's former longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen, a source familiar with the matter has said.
The payment came in the final weeks of Trump's campaign, and the president has recently said he was aware that Cohen made an arrangement with Daniels, an adult-film star whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
But the meeting was promptly canceled, according to lawyer Michael Avenatti.
The meeting, which also to have included Mr. Avenatti, was meant to prepare Ms. Clifford to appear before a grand jury in Southern District of NY.
Avenatti offered to move the meeting to another location and reiterated that Daniels - who he says has been cooperating with prosecutors for months - was ready to go forward with the meeting, but they called back to cancel it, he said.
"If they consider this a big deal, how will they ever bring any serious criminal charges against Cohen et al., let alone handle a trial, in such a high profile matter?" We have bent over backwards to accommodate them. "We remain willing to cooperate but something isn't right", he tweeted.

A spokesman for the US attorney's office in Manhattan had declined to comment on the meeting earlier Sunday night and did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment on the cancellation.
Cohen is at the center of a federal investigation into the money paid to Daniels for potential campaign finance law violations. She argues the nondisclosure agreement should be invalidated because Cohen, signed it, but the president did not.
Daniels has said she had sex with Trump in 2006 and that Cohen paid her $130,000 to keep the encounter secret shortly before the presidential election.
Cohen has acknowledged making the payment through one of his DE business entities.
In April, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Cohen's Rockefeller Center office and his Park Avenue hotel room, seizing business records, including documents related to the hush payment.
