Arsene Wenger believes that Kyle Walker is England's weak link at the World Cup.

Optimism is high amongst Three Lions fans, particularly following a record-breaking 6-1 thumping of Panama on Sunday.

Walker, meanwhile, is playing on the right side of Southgate's three-man defence and admitted before the tournament that he would prefer to play at right-back.

Wenger told BeIN SPORTS: 'He's not a real defender and especially not a central defender.

Marouane Fellaini poised to sign new two-year contract with Manchester United
The 30-year-old, who joined United from Everton in 2013, is now at the World Cup preparing for Belgium's final group game against England.

Southgate's decision to play the 28-year-old former Spurs man out of position has been questioned by former players and pundits, with his lack of defensive nous being highlighted when he gave away a contentious penalty during England's opening 2-1 victory over Tunisia.

The Frenchman, who has still not taken a job since leaving Arsenal at the end of last season, added: "He can be subject to defensive mistakes, which he would not pay for when he plays as a right-back".

He said: "There has been talk of Southgate bringing in Eric Dier as extra protection in midfield against Belgium and in the knockout rounds but England's manager should resist that temptation". 'I don't know why he has not been used at all'.
