Putin-Trump summit to take place in Helsinki on July 16

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Finland's capital Helsinki on 16 July for their first one-to-one summit, an official White House announcement has confirmed.

Trump and Putin have met twice before on the sidelines of global gatherings.

His campaign is under investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller for contacts with Russian figures and potential collusion with the Kremlin's election activities.

"And the resolve clause urges President Trump to bring this matter up with Putin and to tell him that if he continues to do what he's doing, he will do so at his own peril, and to challenge his denial", Graham said.

Mr Trump has listed Syria and Ukraine among the many subjects he said he and Mr Putin would discuss.

According to Trump's adviser, Washington is not expecting a serious breakthrough as the top-level talks haven't been held since the presidents' meeting in Hamburg in July 2017 and many difficulties have accumulated.

Finland has been a favored place for U.S.

"I think a lot of people have said or implied over time that a meeting between President Trump and President Putin somehow proves some nexus between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, which is complete nonsense", Bolton said in Moscow. During most of the Cold War, Finland attempted a balancing act between East and West, though the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics certainly exercised a degree of influence on its Nordic neighbor.

His repetition of the Kremlin's denials of election interference has put him out of step with the findings of the US intelligence community, a bipartisan consensus in Congress and Trump's own appointees, who say there is clear evidence of Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential campaign and reason to believe it could happen again. "We bombed Assad, they did absolutely nothing because the Russians don't have the capability", Kinzinger said.

"I fear his eagerness to get along with Putin might produce concessions that do not serve American national interests", Michael McFaul, ex-U.S. Ambassador to Russian Federation, told the New York Times prior to the latest announcement from the White House. "Any opinion I have I'd share with the president", Pence said. We don't want to isolate Russian Federation.

In a Twitter post before the Helsinki meeting was announced, Mr Trump again appeared to cast doubt on Russian involvement.

During Wednesday's meeting with Bolton, Putin argued that US-Russian relations were at a low point because of American political infighting and expressed a desire to "restore full-fledged relations based on equality and mutual respect".
