Pranked! Former Howard Stern cohort "Stuttering John" Melendez managed to get through to Donald Trump aboard Air Force One by pretending to be a NJ Senator.

"Are you ready for the call?" a White House mobile communications officer asked Melendez before connecting him with Trump.

Melendez said that his plan could have easily gone wrong if only he was asked a few simple questions.

In the call, Melendez poses as Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., who seemed to have an urgent legislative matter he wanted to raise.

"Congratulations on everything - we're proud of you", Trump said by way of a greeting, apparently alluding to the real Menendez's recent acquittal on corruption charges and a subsequent decision by the Justice Department not to pursue additional ones.

"You went through a tough, tough situation - and I don't think a very fair situation - but congratulations", Trump says on the call.

The recording of the call features a voice that sounds like Trump's discussing immigration policy with the fake Menendez.

Axios reports that White House staffers are allegedly "freaking out", that a podcast host was able to dupe the president in such a huge way in such a major security breach. "This is how easy it is to infiltrate the administration", John revealed on his podcast.

The operator took a message, even though Melendez and his producer could be heard giggling. But when Melendez insisted that Trump had said he would speak to Menendez, the operator, somewhat reluctantly, said she would try to connect him.

John quizzes the president about the topic of immigration first, asking him what he should tell his constituents is going on with the zero tolerance policy at the border.

Melendez said in an interview with CNN on Friday that he was "shocked" that he was able to successfully reach the president. They're doing them step by step, I think we can do the whole thing.

Trump reportedly uses at least two iPhones to conduct White House business, with both lacking the robust security employed by his predecessors. Posing as Moore, the senator's aide, Melendez said he was on vacation.

Mr Menendez is a Democratic senator from New Jersey who has campaigned for immigration reform in the US. "So, you know, I have to look after my people as well. I'd rather do the larger solution rather than the smaller solution". President Trump and his administration have been under intense scrutiny lately over the long-standing U.S. policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the Mexican border.
