Jim Carrey Set To Play Dr. Robotnik In 'Sonic The Hedgehog' Film

New reports from Deadline say Carrey is in the final stages of accepting the role as Dr. Robotnik in Paramount's upcoming movie based on the Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Carrey notably joins stars James Marsden and Tika Sumpter in the Jeff Fowler directed film, which is now scheduled to release next year.

Fowler's film will feature a combination of live-action footage and CGI, and it's now unknown whether Carrey will be voicing a computer-generated version of Robotnik or appearing as the character underneath a mountain of practical effects (and an outrageously large mustache).

Sonic the Hedgehog made his debut back in 1991, becoming a blockbuster for Sega, which adopted the video game's title character as its mascot. The pic is produced by Neal Moritz (Fast & Furious), Mie Onishi and Tim Miller (Deadpool), and penned by Pat Casey and & Josh Miller, who created and wrote the animated series Golan the Insatiable.

Unfortunately, we don't know much about the Sonic the Hedgehog film's actual plot.
