USA nonfarm payrolls rose a seasonally adjusted 213,000 in June, the Labor Department said Friday.
"A higher unemployment rate coinciding with a strong jobs gain in June is the best of possible worlds for Canada, with more of us working", CIBC Capital Markets chief economist Avery Shenfeld wrote in a note to clients.
The monthly labour force report was released Friday and showed 2,300 full-time jobs were lost last month.
The unemployment rate moved up last month despite the addition of new jobs because almost 76,000 more people entered the workforce. "Consumer perceptions of the labor market also remain near multi-decade highs".

Manufacturers added 36,000 jobs last month; the education and health sector added 54,000.
"Clearly, firms are looking for workers and have become somewhat desperate, but if they cannot find them, then job growth could be lower than the consensus", said Joel Naroff, chief economist at Naroff Economic Advisors in Holland, Pennsylvania. That kept the annual increase in average hourly earnings at 2.7%. But retailers shed 21,600 jobs, with the losses concentrated at general merchandise stores.
In its report Friday, the government revised up its estimate of job growth in May and April by a combined 37,000. There were increases in professional and business services employment as well as leisure and hospitality. Prices for U.S. Treasuries rose.
