As is often the case at the end of a heat wave, conditions are favourable for potentially risky thunderstorms.
After a week of intense heat, the GTA and much of southern Ontario could be in for a drenching this evening.
The agency released a weather statement saying the thunderstorm will be slow moving, which means residents may see between 25 and 50 milometers of rain.
Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
Environment Canada says the thunderstorm has a potential of becoming "dangerous".

United States service member killed, 2 wounded in 'apparent insider attack' in Afghanistan
The incident marks the first combat fatality for the USA military in Afghanistan since April 30, and the second there this year. Army Specialist Gabriel Conde, 22, was killed by Taliban gunfire in a province east of the Afghan capital of Kabul on April 30.
Ahead of the rain, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the City of Toronto and parts of the GTA.
Intense lightning is also likely with a developing thunderstorm and heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
It looks like London's in for one final day of extreme heat before a cold front moves in, Environment Canada says.
Earlier on Thursday Environment Canada forcasted a daytime high of 34 C today, though humidex values will make it feel as hot as 43 at times. The overnight low will drop to 15 C.
The overnight low will once again be in the low 20s "providing little or no relief from the heat", according to Environment Canada.
