  • North Korea repeatedly rejects U.S. denuclearisation plan, report says

North Korea went ahead with the return of the remains of some US soldiers killed in the 1950-53 Korean war in a goodwill measure aimed at breaking down mistrust between the countries, it said.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with US President Donald Trump.

He continued to note that the USA has no current plans to relax sanctions on North Korea until there is evidence the country is taking steps to denuclearize, saying the Trump administration would continue its campaign of "maximum pressure".

Nearly two months after the historic summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12, denuclearisation negotiations between the US and North Korea have fallen well short of concrete results.

"However, the USA responded to our expectation by inciting global sanctions and pressure against the DPRK", it said in a statement carried by KCNA news agency. "The idea that we're going to relax the sanctions just on North Korea's say-so, I think, is something that just isn't under consideration", he said.

It said "expecting any result, while insulting the dialogue partner" was "a foolish act that amounts to waiting to see a boiled egg hatch out".

But even as ties have improved between the two countries, little progress has been made on the key goal of the North's denuclearisation.

The White House and State Department did not immediately return requests for comment. Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, also said this week North Korea has not taken the necessary steps to denuclearise.

Asked about the possibility of additional meetings, Bolton said Trump in a recent letter to Kim proposed sending Pompeo back to North Korea, and that Trump was ready to meet with Kim any time.

Bolton said the United States has lived up to the Singapore declaration that followed the June 12 summit.

Ri traveled this week to Iran, where President Hassan Rouhani told him the United States can not be trusted after the Trump administration reneged on a 2015 deal to lift sanctions in return for curbs on Iran's own nuclear program.

US officials familiar with the talks, however, told Reuters that North Korea had yet to agree to a timeline for eliminating its nuclear arsenal or to disclose its size, which USA estimates have put at between 30 and 60 warheads. "We will have a deep discussion with the North Korean side about measures to promote the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration and about successfully holding inter-Korean summit talks".
