Davis had earlier said that Cohen would be willing to cooperate with the Russian Federation probe, and that he'd refuse any pardon from the president.

But if Cohen's guilty plea and Tuesday's conviction of campaign manager Paul Manafort do not imperil Trump today, what they portend is ominous.

And aside from Trump, he is perhaps best qualified to answer two of the big questions about the businessman-turned-president over the years: Is he really worth $10 billion, as he claims, and what's in his tax returns?

Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts, including two counts of campaign finance violations, in federal court in Manhattan on Tuesday.

"So, Michael Cohen does not have information that President Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting with the Russians beforehand or even after?"

Cuomo told reporters on Thursday that he believes "it would be an impeachable offense" if Trump used his pardon power to prevent someone like Cohen from implicating him in a crime.

Cohen's willingness to cooperate is expected to help NY on two tracks: A civil case by the Attorney General's Office into the operations of the Trump Foundation and a criminal investigation into whether any tax laws were violated.

He added: "The reality is that the president has completely been vindicated by the whole Cohen incident".

"I think we all went in there like we were supposed to and assumed that Mr. Manafort was innocent".

"I've been very consistent about this, I don't want to cross paths with ongoing criminal investigations", Graham said.

Despite Trump's defiant tone, Washington-based campaign finance expert Kate Belinski, of the Nossaman law firm, said to expect legal consequences for both Trump and his campaign - most likely in the form of a civil complaint before the Federal Election Commission.

Trump tried to play down his relationship with Cohen, his longtime "fixer", who claims the president directed a hush-money scheme to buy the silence of two women who say they had affairs with Trump.

"I don't think I've witnessed anything like I've witnessed over the a year ago and a half".

Mueller's office has not independently confirmed that, The Associated Press noted.

"If anyone is looking for a good lawyer", said President Donald Trump ruefully, "I would strongly suggest that you don't retain the services of Michael Cohen".

And a Quinnipiac University Survey released this month found just 36 percent of voters would like Democrats to begin the impeachment process against Mr. Trump if they take over the House, compared to 58 percent who oppose the notion - including 59 percent of independent voters.

Speaking to Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt in an interview broadcast Thursday, the president said: 'I would give myself an A+.

But an unchastened Trump appears intent on riding out the storm as Washington grapples with the latest upheaval in his tumultuous presidency.

Mr Trump argued the move would have dire economic consequences. "I don't know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job", Mr Trump said.

The president said the campaign charges against Cohen were flimsy, but because he had committed other infractions unrelated to Trump, he had reason to lie.

According to former Central Intelligence Agency director Michael Hayden, the real issue is the Trump campaign's handling of the meeting.

The New York Post says it called Davis back in July to confirm what CNN was saying. Duncan said she considered the charges brought by special counsel Robert Mueller's team to be legitimate and considered the evidence "overwhelming". The probe includes the hacking of Democrats' emails, whether the Trump campaign may have cooperated with Russian Federation and if the president obstructed justice.
