Chris Evans took fans by surprise on Thursday when he announced on Twitter that he is done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and finished his last day playing Captain America.

Chris also shared an emotional note to his fellow cast mates, which include Robert Downey Jr.as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffallo as The Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. He writes, "Officially wrapped on Avengers 4".

Evans said it was an "honour" to play the role for nearly a decade.

Although we knew Avengers 4 would be Evans' last - his contract is now up - and that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now moving into a phase that does not include numerous original heroes including Iron Man and hulk, many fans continued to hold out hope that Cap would return.

Many fans are eager to find out how the saga of Thanos and the Infinity Stones will end in Avengers 4 next year, but it seems like even the filmmakers didn't have their plan set in stone until the reshoots began.
