Please don't call police about 'drunk' birds, department says

According to Gilbert Police Department in Minnesota, they have received several reports of birds who appeared to be "under the influence" after flying into cars and acting confused.

The statement ends on a humorous note, advising Gilbert residents to alert the police department if they see "Tweety acting as if 10 feet tall and getting into confrontations with cats" or "any other birds after midnight with Taco Bell items". Berries ferment with the cold, and because of an early frost in the area, the birds were eating the intoxicating berries before their planned trip to the south for the winter.

This has caused the interesting and unusual occurrence of drunken birds to seem more prevalent than previous years.

Matthew Dodder, a self-described "bird guy" in Palo Alto, California, told The Washington Post that since there's no such thing as a birdie breathalyzer, you have to look at their in-flight behavior to the level of avian intoxication.

He added: 'It appears that some birds are getting a little more "tipsy" than normal.

He said robins, cedar waxwings and thrushes are the bird species most likely to tie one on since they eat more berries than other species.
