Smith Rowe On Target As Gunner Extend Winning Run

The move paid off, initially.

It was the ideal start as we opened the scoring in the fourth minute with Nacho Monreal's goal-bound header from a Mohamed Elneny corner finding the back of the net via a big deflection off Sokratis. So far, so good.

Emile Smith-Rowe had been given just his second start in the Arsenal first team and the young Englishman should have gotten on the scoresheet in the 18th minute, but his sliding effort at the back post after meeting a low Sead Kolasinac cross was sent into the side-netting.

On this occasion, Smith Rowe could not stretch far enough to apply the finishing touch, and though the 18-year-old's starring moment was to come, the fine-flowing move was the last real positive to be drawn from Arsenal's dabble with 3-4-3.

'Kolasinac is a player who wants to go forward but he doesn't want to defend.

First, it was Mahir Madatov who ghosted past Kolasinac, and soon after it was Medvedev who caught him unawares.

We may not see a return to 3-4-3, but after Sokratis, Smith Rowe and Guendouzi made it 20 different goalscorers in this competition for Arsenal since the start of last season, we can expect that figure to rise further before Christmas.
