  • Students served kangaroo meat in chili at Nebraska school

Williams told KNEP, 10/11's sister station, junior and senior high school students were served chili with kangaroo meat mixed with beef one time.

Potter-Dix Schools Superintendent Mike Williams said Thursday that Kevin Frei, the junior/senior high school's head cook in Potter, no longer works for the district.

According to The Sun, parents were left outraged when they found out what their children had been fed for their school dinner at Potter-Dix School, as staff had failed to inform them what was on the menu.

A school cafeteria in Nebraska served chili made with KANGAROO MEAT last week. and a bunch of kids got sick.

Williams wrote a letter to parents on Wednesday and said the school will "no way be serving food of this nature again".

A mother later posted on Facebook that some of the students had gotten ill from the kangaroo meat.

Frei told Williams that he had added the kangaroo meat to the chili because "of its nutritional value and because it is a very lean meat".

If the district were to serve food with unusual ingredients, the superintendent said those ingredients should be listed on the menu so people are aware of what they're eating.

'[Kangaroo meat] is without a doubt not a normal staple of our diet and will not, nor will any other non-staple foods, be a part of the Potter-Dix meal program, ' Williams said in his letter to parents.

"I apologize for the anxiety and any harm that this has caused individual students and/or families", he added. "We will make sure that something like this never occurs again".
