  • Manufacturing falls for fifth straight month

Just over 129,000 cars were built in November, down by 19.6% on the same month a year ago.

The SMMT has attributed United Kingdom vehicle manufacturing's "serious" decline in productivity of 19.6% during November to falling business and consumer confidence caused by Brexit.

Brexit worries weighed on consumer and business morale, according to the surveys, while auto production is falling at its fastest rate since Britain was last in recession in 2009.

Just over 105,000 cars were exported in November, representing eight in 10 vehicles leaving United Kingdom factories. The SMMT's work has also indicated that import tariffs alone could push up the list price of cars imported to the United Kingdom from the continent by an average of £1,500 if brands and their retail networks were unable to absorb these additional costs.

Auto production in Britain slumped by nearly 20 per cent in November, according to new figures.

Steelers rule James Conner out, JuJu Smith-Schuster questionable
The Steelers, on the other hand, are dealing with life without James Conner and losing three of their last four games. Since coach Sean Payton and Brees arrived in 2006, the Saints have not lost any of their five home playoff games.

He said: "With fewer than 100 days until the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, the automotive industry needs certainty and a "no-deal" Brexit must be ruled out". Year-to-date the industry has experienced an 8.2% decline on last year's output, down to 1,441,334 cars produced.

As well as the impact of uncertainty on British consumer demand, companies across the manufacturing sector have issued increasingly anxious warnings that delays to imports caused by a no-deal Brexit could have disastrous consequences. The SMMT predicts £4.5bn in tariff costs if UK-EU trade reverts to World Trade Organisation terms.

'If the country falls off a cliff edge next March the consequences would be devastating'.

"Thousands of jobs in British vehicle factories and supply chains depend on free and frictionless trade with the European Union - if the country falls off a cliff-edge next March the consequences would be devastating".

The industry body noted that while domestic auto production had fallen by 1.9% to 23,809 vehicles, exports had plummeted by a 22.8% to 105,221.
