Cobb does not believe Mueller's report will harm the president politically. The extensive list includes Trump associates and family members, federal agencies and other organizations. What really matters are the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team.

House Democrats could have all the evidence in the world that Trump committed what they consider an impeachable offense.

For months and months, we've been told the following - and not without good reason: (1) The House Intelligence Committee's Russian Federation investigation is hopelessly partisan and beset with intense infighting. According to Trump, while the Democrats are desperately attempting to uncover his alleged crimes with their probes, he argued that it is in fact they who are committing a crime with their "presidential harassment".

In tweets earlier in the day, Trump said letters sent by the House Oversight Committee to 81 people and organisations associated with him were meant to "harass innocent people".

The letter cites a bombshell report from The New York Times which noted that Kelly was apparently so distraught with Trump's request, the former general and one-time chief of staff wrote a "contemporaneous memo" to document the extraordinary circumstances and pressure he was under to comply with his boss. Democrat predecessor Barack Obama refused to comply with similar documentation requests during his own presidency.

Burnett asks Nadler: Why isn't Ivanka Trump on your list?

In another sign of growing tensions between Trump and House Democrats, the White House rebuffed a separate request for documents pertaining to the security clearance process, a move that drastically increases the chances of a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee.

Nadler told ABC on Sunday that such action would be "a long way down the road".

He emerged empty-handed from a high-profile summit with North Korea leader Kim Jong Un on denuclearisation, and Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, in three days of congressional testimony, publicly characterised the president as a "conman" and "cheat".

"We have sent these document requests in order to begin building the public record", Nadler said in a statement accompanying the letters. Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty a year ago to campaign finance violations for his involvement in the payments to Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal before the 2016 election. "It's all a hoax", Trump said at the White House, while hosting the 2018 Division I Football Championship Subdivision champion North Dakota State University Bison.

The request asks American Media for "all documents that relate to the purchase of rights for any narrative, personal account, documentation, recording, or photograph (including but not limited to materials colloquially referred to as "catch and kill") concerning Donald Trump from June 2015 to the present".

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Monday the White House had received the letter and that "the counsel's office and relevant White House officials will review it and respond at the appropriate time".

Mr Nadler, whose committee has the power to conduct impeachment hearings, also said it was "very clear" that the president had obstructed justice.
