Jason Day has hit back at an ugly social media episode following his injury withdrawal from the Arnold Palmer Invitational in the U.S. state of Florida. Woods explained the pain in his neck, which has now subsided, has been an occasional factor since last year's Open Championship. "It was getting to the point where it was affecting my set up, my back swing, my through swing". I was just plodding along and just kind of getting around.
Asked if he has any long-term concerns about the neck issue, Woods said: "No". That's because my lower back is fused. I've got to stay fit, I've got to stay on it and have to stay as loose as I possibly can for as long as I play out here.
The two-time Players champion arrives in Ponte Vedra, Fla., for just his fourth start of the season. He has not finished out of the top 20 in his three starts this year, though he not finished closer than eight shots of the victor. Part of that, he said, was due to the neck problems. If I would have got my rounds in last week, it would have been four tournaments, so I'm right there where I need to be. While he has made just one Players cut in his career, he enters this week with top 20s in five of his last six starts, including two straight top 10s.
With the neck corrected, Woods also wanted to ensure his stroke was in order and had short-game coach Matt Killen working with him.
Woods plans to play a nine-hole practice round on Tuesday, before speaking to the media at 10:30 a.m. "I had him take a look at it to see what he thought of where my set-up looked like now versus all the times that I have putted well".
"My finishes are getting a little better each and every time I have gone out so far this year and I've got a little more consistent with my play".

"The golf course just plays slower". That's probably the biggest difference.
"It's like when have you a fan yell at you on the course, you want to go over there and get into him but unfortunately it makes you look bad", Day said. As I said the end of last year, I wasn't going to play as many times as I did last year, so it's just about trying to manage what I have.
He has withdrawn eight times in 237 events in his PGA Tour career, notably when he had to pull out of the 2012 Masters during the second round at Augusta National with a strained left ankle.
"It's a very simple formula here", stated Woods. "I'm not going to be sitting in my bus depressed, and especially when the doctors tell me to go and walk".
