A la tête de ce réseau, William Singer a été inculpé de quatre chefs d'accusation différents, dont extorsion et blanchiment, et devait plaider coupable devant un magistrat mardi après-midi. Les journalistes précisent que les étudiants n'étaient pas forcément informés des agissements de leurs parents. De leur côté, Lori Loughlin et son mari auraient versé un pot-de-vin de 500.000 dollars pour que leurs filles soient considérées comme membres de l'équipe de sport de l'Université de Californie du Sud, alors qu'elles n'en faisaient pas partie. Selon ces documents, Felicity Huffman aurait dépensé près de 15 000 dollars pour truquer les résultats scolaires de sa fille aînée, et aurait récidivé avec sa fille cadette. Sollicités par l'AFP, les attachés de presse des deux comédiennes n'ont pas donné suite dans l'immédiat. Un trait de caractère que l'actrice Felicity Huffman pourrait bien partager avec son personnage, Lynette Scavo.
Selon les enquêteurs, outre les falsifications d'examens standards obligatoires pour l'entrée à l'université, le SAT et l'ACT, l'organisation criminelle s'était également entendue avec des entraîneurs sportifs universitaires.
