News, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has made a decision to pay five years of rent for Matthew Charles, a former inmate who can not afford housing.

CNN political commentator Van Jones told TMZ in December 2018 that the First Step Act would not have passed "if Kim Kardashian had not gone to the White House to talk to Donald Trump".

He was first sentenced to 35 years in prison in 1996 in light of drug trafficking charges before briefly being released in 2016 due to the Fair Sentencing Act.

Following his release, Charles faced an obstacle with finding where to live because of his past and Kardashian chose to reach out to him.

However, Matthew was forced to return to prison past year after an appeals court overturned a judge's initial ruling. After his release, Charles was invited to the State of the Union as one of Trump's guests.

A thankful recipient of her benefaction has revealed on social media that the mother of three paid five years house rent for him and that though she didn't do it for publicity, he had to thank her publicly.

Since taking up the case of Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old grandmother who was sentenced to life for a non-violent drug offense, Kardashian has remained a fixture on the criminal justice reform circuit.

But when it finally came to finding his own place he wasn't able to rent a townhouse on the "basis of his criminal history" and "lack of credit" since he had been behind bars for the last 20 years.

"It started with Ms. Alice, but looking at her and seeing the faces and learning the stories of the men and women I've met inside prisons I knew I couldn't stop at just one", Kardashian tweeted to her millions of followers in September.
