Les Britanniques exemptés de visas pour se déplacer dans l'Union européenne — Brexit

  • Le Parlement européen a approuvé l'exemption de visas pour les Britanniques effectuant de courts séjours dans l'Union européenne après le Brexit

Le texte a été approuvé par 502 voix pour, 81 contre et 29 abstentions.

Cette exemption ne sera cependant appliquée que si les citoyens européens bénéficient de la même mesure dans le pays.

Si elle est approuvée, cette législation s'appliquera le jour suivant le retrait du Royaume-Uni de l'Union. L'exemption de visa ne donne pas le droit de travailler dans l'UE. Cela pourrait conduire à la réintroduction de l'obligation de visa pour les ressortissants britanniques.

Jeudi 4 avril, le Parlement européen s'est prononcé favorable à la dispense de visas pour les Britanniques qui veulent voyager dans l'Union européenne, et ce même si le Royaume-Uni se retire de l'UE sans accord.

La législation "devra être publiée au Journal officiel de l'UE d'ici au 12 avril, afin de se préparer à un possible Brexit sans accord à cette date", a souligné le Parlement dans un communiqué. L'Irlande et le Royaume-Uni disposent d'un arrangement bilatéral spécifique qui permet le séjour sans visa dans les deux pays.
