Taken down as the Kentucky Derby victor, Maximum Security is now out of the Preakness.

Trainer Bill Mott confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that the long shot victor of horse racing's biggest event is no longer being considered to run in the second jewel of the Triple Crown because of illness.

With Country House's withdrawal, there will be no Triple Crown victor this year.

Country House is this year's contender to win thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown - but only after the horse that crossed the wire first in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, Maximum Security, was disqualified.

On Sunday, Country House trainer Bill Mott was not ready to definitely commit the horse to race the Preakness.

"It's probably a little viral thing", Mott told the horse racing journal.

The last Derby victor to skip the Preakness was Grindstone, who missed the second jewel of the Triple Crown in 1996 because of a bone chip in his right knee.

American Pharoah and Justify won Triple Crowns in 2015 and 2018, respectively.

Maximum Security will not race in the Preakness Stakes either, his co-owner, Gary West, told the Associated Press on Monday.

Based on the blood work results, Mott said he has started the colt on antibiotics.

The disqualification was made after two jockeys - including Country House rider Flavien Prat - claimed a foul on Maximum Security, who veered outward and bothered multiple horses as the pack hit the top of the stretch and headed for home.

Country House joins Maximum Security in skipping the Preakness. It marked the first time in the event's 145-year history that a Derby champion had been stripped of a title because of a track infraction. He has raced monthly - a maiden race in January, the Risen Star Stakes in February, the Louisiana Derby in March, the Arkansas Derby in April and then the Kentucky Derby.
