  • David Willey reacts after a missed chance

It arrives on the back of an outstanding 2018 with Kent that saw him named the Professional Cricketers' Association MVP, the Natwest Players' Player of the Year, the Royal London One-Day Cup MVP and the Vitality Blast MVP. Willey was named in England's provisional squad while Archer was not.

And in order to make room for Archer, they dropped Willey who played an important role in the nation's incredible transformation as an ODI powerhouse since the disastrous outing in the last World Cup. The Barbados-born fast bowler, by his own admission, is gunning to dismiss Virat Kohli at the World Cup 2019 as he failed to get rid of the India skipper in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.

"It's a group of players that have been together for three or four years now that have got us to No 1, " Willey, who has been a key member of England's bowling attack, said in March.

England have included fast bowler Jofra Archer in their squad for the upcoming World Cup in place of David Willey and also picked left-arm spinner Liam Dawson along with opener James Vince.

Archer can bowl at over 90mph, as well as offer quick runs with the bat. "It's different but then it isn't different", he told Sky Sports.

Archer downplayed any fears his call-up would cause any friction in the squad, saying he had been welcomed "with open arms" by teammates for the three matches he played.

Now the best ranked ODI side in the world, England are the firm favourites to win the World Cup.

Sneaker makers and retailers tell Trump a shoe tariff would be catastrophic
In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said he didn't know what Trump was talking about. Asked if this should be investigated, Trump said: "100 percent".

"I think I probably have a bigger advantage over some of the other guys in our team", he said.

"To be honest, I think worldwide cricket is probably the same intensity as the IPL".

Archer, whose father is English, only became eligible for England this year after a change to the ECB's rules in November.

Earlier this month, former England captain Michael Vaughan said he would be "staggered" if Archer played no part in the home Ashes series against Australia that follows the World Cup, even though the 90 miles per hour (145 kmh) speed merchant has yet to make his Test debut.

A good World Cup would also push Archer into contention for the Ashes series later in the summer.

They play Australia in a warm-up match in Southampton on Saturday.

England begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa on May 30.
