SoftBank Group Corp. -owned chip designer ARM will comply with the Trump administration's order to stop supplying Huawei Technologies Co. with technology vital to the manufacture of the Chinese company's products.
The BBCreported earlier on Wednesday that ARM, which is owned by Japan's Softbank, had instructed employees to halt "all active contracts, support entitlements, and any pending engagements" with Huawei after the United States added Huawei to a list of companies with which us firms could not do business.
Update #1, May 22, 2019, 08:09 a.m. ET: In an emailed statement, an Arm spokesperson told Android Authority, "Arm is complying with all of the latest regulations set forth by the USA government". Huawei also issued a comment on the situation, seen below. However, if Huawei remains on the Entity List long term, losing access to operating system technology and chip designs for its smartphones will be a huge blow to the company, which is now the second biggest smartphone company in the world.
Huawei's ambitions for the smartphone market have been dealt a serious blow according to leaked documents that suggest chipmaker ARM is suspending all activities with the beleaguered Chinese vendor. Qualcomm, MediaTek, Apple, Samsung, and Huawei are all ARM architecture licensees and, as a effect, almost every smartphone on the market uses an ARM-based CPU. Huawei says this move is the result of "politically motivated decisions", but it doesn't blame its partners for doing what they feel is necessary. Ren reportedly said he believes USA companies were working to persuade the US government to co-operate with Huawei.

Ce dernier possède une offre de Manchester City et serait tout proche d'accepter l'offre du double champion d'Angleterre en titre. Cette fois, c'est le quotidien AS qui évoque un interêt de l'Atlético Madrid pour l'international français.
Without ARM's designs, there's simply no way Huawei could continue to make phones and tablets, at least not in the short to medium term. ARM now has eight offices in the USA and 6,000 workers. After landing on the US Commerce Department's "Entity List" last week, multiple US companies have signaled they would sever business ties.
The Chinese company was added to the list because the United States government said it had information that suggested Huawei was engaged in activities that were contrary to U.S. national security or foreign policy interest.
It temporarily eased restrictions on Huawei on Tuesday, granting it a license to buy US goods until August 19, meaning that updates of Google apps can continue until then. While the chips are their own, they use ARM instruction sets that tell the hardware what to do.
