  • Donald Trump denies calling Duchess Meghan Markle 'nasty'

The comments made by Markle were well before she married Prince Harry and moved to the U.K. Trump is now denying he made such a comment, tweeting this morning (June 2), "I never called Meghan Markle 'nasty.' Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold!" I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. But debate on social media since then has raged over whether his use of "nasty" referred to the duchess herself or the negative things she said about him in 2016.

The reporters informed him that Markle "wasn't so nice to" Trump during the 2016 campaign, and that she said she would have moved to Canada if Trump was elected. "You're not just voting for a woman if it's Hillary just because she's a woman, but certainly, because Trump has made it easy to see that you don't really want that kind of world that he's painting".

An official Trump campaign Twitter account had rather bizarrely called attention to the "nasty" comment on Saturday by linking to a video of the interview and suggesting the president had not used the word; it urged people to "Listen for yourself!"

When told this in his interview with the Sun, Trump said he did not know she would not be present on his state visit, which begins Monday but said, "I hope she is OK".

"I don't think it's going to disrupt the welcome at all", he said on CBS's "Face the Nation", because the British had learned "from the president that you know regularly we have to agree to disagree. I'm sure she will do excellently", Mr Trump said.

Over the next five years, the Pentagon would invest "signicantly" in programmes needed to ensuring regional stability, he said. Wu told reporters that the US has recently "had a series of negative words and deeds" on Taiwan issues.

The move prompted street protests in the United Kingdom, an online petition signed by more than one million opposed to the idea, and a debate in Parliament over whether Mr Trump deserved the highest honour that Britain can bestow on a foreign leader.

He went on to say that he was glad she had joined the royal family and he believed she would make a "very good" princess. "She'll be very good. I hope she does (succeed)", he said.

A royal biographer has branded Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as "extravagant" and says the British public are unimpressed with her spending habits.

Though President Trump will not be meeting with Meghan Markle, he will be meeting with Prince Charles, who differs with president on climate change. We will be talking. "I didn't know that she was nasty", Trump said.
