  • USA women thrashed Thailand by 13 goals as Alex Morgan and Co run riot to set new World Cup record

Kaylyn Kyle, a former Canadian soccer player and current commentator at Canadian sports network TSN, apparently received death threats after sharing her opinion about the US women's national team celebrating their goals after running up the score against Thailand.

Kyle criticized the the team on the air on Tuesday after the USA women ran up the score to 13-0, and continued to celebrate each goal throughout the match. It was one of the biggest blowouts in the tournament's history and made US tie with Sweden for one win each, although the USA led with the most scores. "Celebrate. Would you tell a men's team to not score or celebrate?"

"For the celebrations - these are goals that we have dreamt of our entire life", Morgan said.

The hosts, coached by Corinne Diacre, cruised to a 4-0 win over South Korea in their first outing last Friday and are hoping to build on that against the Norwegians in Nice at 1900 GMT in one of 13 sold-out games in the tournament so far.

"For me, it's disrespectful and disgraceful".

"I definitely think we need to keep our feet on the ground and I think we will, but I do think that we created a lot of good energy and that's something that can help carry us forward", said Mewis, the 26-year-old midfielder who was making her World Cup finals debut. Alex Morgan of the USA celebrates scoring their twelfth goal with Megan Rapinoe and team mate. "Hats off to Thailand for holding their heads high".

"This is a world championship so every team that is here has been fantastic to get to this point".

Here is an excerpt: "You want the Americans to impose the slaughter rule or patronize their opponents by pretending they didn't just tack another goal onto the scoreline?"

"This is high-level competition, and the Americans have no reason to apologize for treating it as such".

Criticism was lobbed from inside the States, too, including American players-turned-analysts Alexi Lalas and Taylor Twellman.

The Americans play No. 39 Chile in Paris on Sunday.

Horan smashed in the third in the 32nd minute, but the floodgates really opened in the second half as Ellis's side scored four times in six minutes shortly after the restart.

A full house for USA games are not an issue.

The Thai women qualified for the 2019 tournament by reaching the semifinals of the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup where they lost in a penalty shootout to No. 6 Australia before losing the third-place match 3-1 to No. 16 China. The U.S. team is here to win a World Cup.
