  • Bautista Agut wins 2nd set against Djokovic at Wimbledon

Roger Federer has exacted sweet revenge over Rafael Nadal to sweep into a record 12th Wimbledon final with an enthralling four-set triumph over the mighty Spaniard.

The top-ranked Djokovic was forced to produce his best tennis of the tournament to defeat Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, who almost proved a disrupter in his first Grand Slam semifinal before succumbing to Wimbledon's four-time and defending champion. He was managing his nerves in the first set but later on he established himself and started to play better.

Djokovic reacts during his match against Agut. Appreciate it while you can. Federer understandably seemed more jovial about Friday's match. There was a restlessness.

Half an hour after Djokovic had battled past Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, fans flocked back to their Centre Court seats and the giant screen on "Henman Hill" to witness a duel that had been on the cards from the moment number two seed Federer and Nadal were placed in the same half of the draw.

Indeed - Andy Murray aside on two occasions - no other player apart from them has lifted the Wimbledon trophy since Australian Lleyton Hewitt in 2002. The crowd roared when opponent Bautista Agut got on the front foot and took the second set.

"At times they wanted him to come back to the match, maybe take a lead because he was an underdog in the match".

Djokovic was broken once in the second set, allowing Bautista Agut to even the score. However, it was Nadal who emerged victorious in the memorable 2008 final at the Grass Court championship.

"I had enough support here over the years, so I don't complain", said Djokovic afterwards.

Roger Federer has won the first set 7-6 (3) in his Wimbledon semifinal against Rafael Nadal.

As entertaining Djokovic vs. Bautista Agut was - including a 45-stroke point won by Djokovic - it was merely a tasty appetizer ahead of the day's delectable main course.

This will be Federer's 12th time in the Wimbledon finals and Djokovic's sixth. Instead, those pals were sitting in a guest box at Centre Court on Friday.

Djokovic claimed the opening set in just 36 minutes, looking virtually untouchable.

Nadal carried that momentum with him and broke again two games later before serving out the set and levelling the match up after nearly 90 minutes on court. But the top-seeded Serb saved two break chances in the third set and won easily in the fourth, though he needed five match points in the final game to close it out. I mean, at least on my side. Djokovic said. "Sometimes I show my emotions, sometimes I don't". "It's nothing really in particular".

Defending champion Novak Djokovic has won the first set 6-2 in his Wimbledon semifinal against Roberto Bautista Agut.

But the second set saw a shift. And he will use that as motivation on Sunday when he comes up against an old foe in Federer. But don't expect him to treat this like just "another Wimbledon final".

"I had my chances", said Nadal, who offered no excuses for the loss.
