Four teens charged over London bus attack on lesbians

Four boys, two aged 16, one aged 15 and another aged 17, have now been charged with an aggravated hate crime over the incident, police have confirmed.

Melania Geymonat and her partner Chris say they were subjected to a homophobic attack and left covered in blood after refusing to kiss on a bus.

Both women were taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries after the incident in the early hours. One of the two 16-year-olds faces an additional charge of cannabis possession.

All four defendants will appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on August 21.

Geymonat and Chris had been travelling on a night bus in Camden when a group of boys allegedly began demanding that they kiss and called them "lesbians" after realising they were a couple.

Ms Geymonat said before she knew it, Chris was in the middle of the group of men being beaten.

"So I immediately went there by impulse and tried to pull her out of there and they started punching me. I don't remember whether or not I lost consciousness".

She said that the police soon arrived and that the pair's belongings were also stolen in the assault. "I was really bleeding".

Miss Geymonat added: 'The violence is not only because we are women who are dating each other.

In a post on Facebook, Ms Geymonat - who worked recently as a Ryanair air hostess and is originally from Uruguay - said: "I'm exhausted of being taken as a sexual object, of finding out that these situations are usual, of gay friends who were beaten up just because".

Ms Geymonat in her job as a flight attendant.
