Heartbreaking video shows trainer pleading with boxer Maxim Dadashev to quit fight

Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died in a USA hospital after sustaining injuries during a boxing match against Puerto Rico's Subriel Matias. Buddy McGirt, Dadashev's trainer, and strength and conditioning coach Donatas Janusevicius confirmed the news to ESPN.

Dadashev was fighting for his life with "severe brain damage" following his brutal defeat to Subriel Matias in Maryland last Friday.

"It's very sad. There are no words", federation President Umar Kremlev told the Sport Express media outlet.

The Russian Boxing Federation will cover Dadashev's funeral expenses and provide his family with compensation. Dadashev had taken a lot of hits and his trainer was seen pleading with him to stop the fight. "I believe that some human factors intervened, that there was some kind of violation".

The 28-year-old appeared unsteady on his legs, leading McGirt to pull his man out, confirming the first loss of his 14-fight career.

"He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing".

McGirt has since opened up on his struggles to come to terms with Dadashev's death: "He seemed OK, he was ready, but it's the sport that we're in".

"I hope that Maxim is all right", Matias said after the fight.

"My mind is really running insane right now".

This latest tragedy will also call into question again, safety precautions and the immediacy of care for fighters that have clearly taken a beating or a serious knockout punch. But at the end of the day, everything was fine [in training].

A spokeswoman at the hospital where Dadashev died issued a statement on behalf of his partner and mother to their son, Elizaveta Apushkina. "We join Maxim's family and friends in grief".

He was hospitalised after the bout and underwent surgery but his heart stopped on Tuesday.
