MS Dhoni is proceeding to 106 TA Battalion (Para) for being with the Battalion from 31 Jul-15 Aug 19.

MS Dhoni made himself unavailable for the West Indies tour amidst talks of his retirement and chose to serve Army regiment for around two months. The battalion has headquarters in Bengaluru. He was given an honorary rank in 2011. Along with Shooter Abhinav Bindra and Deepak Rao, Dhoni was accorded with the honour.

Dhoni, who led India to their 2011 World Cup triumph, got into trouble during the World Cup in England for having his regiment's insignia on his wicketkeeper's gloves. Dhoni also became a qualified paratrooper in the Indian Army in 2015 after completing five parachute training jumps in the Agra training camp.

When he opted out of the West Indies series, that starts August 3, speculation mounted that he may retire.

When the team was announced for three Twenty20 Internationals, three One Day Internationals and two Test, Dhoni's name was expectedly missing from the list. He had even gone on to say that Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja had to sacrifice their wickets as Dhoni was not playing the big shots.
