  • TSA discovers ‘souvenir’ MISSILE LAUNCHER in traveler’s luggage

The statement included images of what appears to be the launch tube for a Griffin missile, which manufacturer Raytheon says is a "precise, low-collateral-damage weapon for irregular warfare operations".

TSA officers at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport discovered a missile launcher in a man's checked bag Monday morning.

"Maybe he might consider in the future bringing home a T-shirt, hat a mug or a key chain", TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein tells PEOPLE.

Authorities say the man, a resident of Jacksonville, Texas, told officials that he was active military personnel and was traveling home from Kuwait.

Located at his departure gate, the unnamed military man was detained for questioning.

The item was reportedly confiscated and turned over to the Maryland fire marshal for disposal.

So far in 2019, TSA has confiscated 20 guns from traveler's carry-on luggage at BWI, leaving the airport on pace to find 35 such weapons this year, a 60 percent increase over 2018.
