  • Andy Carroll 'feels very good' to make Newcastle return

Striker Andy Carroll says his return to Newcastle United eight years after he left was what "dreams were made of".

In an update to this morning's story that the powerful forward could be returning to his hometown club, Sky Sports' Keith Downie and The Chronicle's Lee Ryder are both that reporting Carroll is now at St. James' Park as he looks to finalise the move.

Carroll underwent ankle surgery in February and has not played since. Given Carroll's injury record a significant risk is involved but the Newcastle manager believes the heavily incentivised deal makes it a gamble worth taking.

He could perhaps be a backup option for Newcastle United, and as he wouldn't cost anything, Newcastle and Bruce should roll the dice and see how it works out for them.

Carroll left Newcastle in January 2011, joining Liverpool for a fee of £35million after Fernando Torres' £50million move to Chelsea.

If that exit upset many Newcastle supporters, it did not provoke anything like the disappointment engendered by Rafael Benítez's resignation in June and his replacement by Bruce.

Swedish defender Krafth has signed a four-year deal and comes into the reckoning for Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal.

His return has now been confirmed in a statement on Newcastle's official website, with Carroll admitting his delight at returning to his boyhood club.

The Gateshead-born striker, who was capped nine times by England, was desperate to return to the club where he began his career, scoring 33 goals in 91 appearances before making the unsuccessful switch to Liverpool.

"It feels very good [to move back]", the 30-year-old told the club's official website. "My friends and family are here, and it's the club that I support - it is home", said Carroll. "It's home", Carroll said.

He told Sky Sports: "When I put the shirt back on it will probably be a better feeling that it was the first time. I left on a high and I want to get back to how it was, scoring goals, playing games and enjoying games". "For me to get back to where I was, I think this is the only place for me".
