Bangladesh one-day worldwide cricket skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has asked for two months to confirm his retirement plans, officials said Saturday.

Domingo takes over from Steve Rhodes, who had his tenure cut short after Bangladesh failed to reach the heights they expected in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019. "We have chose to pick Russell Domingo as he will be available".

A few other candidates emerged later, some with a better profile, but BCB was in a hurry to name the coach with a one-off Test series against Afghanistan and a tri-nation Twenty20 tournament involving the visitors and Zimbabwe coming in September.

"I am looking forward to the new challenge of being the head coach to Bangladesh".

He joins Bangladesh, and will work hand-in-hand with MacKenzie, who has been retained as batting coach for the next four years.

"It is a massive honour.I have followed Bangladesh's progress with keen interest and I am extremely excited to assist the team in reaching the goals that they are capable of", he said.

Domingo, the lone candidate to face an interview for the post when he arrived in Dhaka on Aug 7, said he was eagerly looking ahead to his new challenge.

In 2010, Domingo was appointed as the coach of South Africa A for the tour of Bangladesh before being named as assistant coach of South Africa a year later.

Domingo was involved in development with Cricket South Africa (CSA), prior to taking up the Bangladesh job. He replaced Gary Kirsten as national team head coach of the Proteas in 2013 and remained there 2017.

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has also been appointed as new spin bowling coach up to ICC World Twenty20 in Australia next year.

As the coach of the South African cricket team, he led them to 2014 World T20 and 2015 Cricket World Cup semi-finals. He has also coached the Warriors franchise in South Africa's domestic one-day and Twenty20 competitions and at the Champions League Twenty20.
