"Spider-Man: Far From Home" Is Sony’s Highest-Grossing Film Ever

The webslinger's feature film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, is now Sony's highest-grossing film of all time, beating out a film about super-spy James Bond, Variety reports. Sure, Tom Holland is adorable and the John Hughes spin on the Peter Parker character makes these movies a delight, but there was added interest in Far from Home given that it was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie released after Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame, which brought all the previous films to an emotional conclusion. In 2015, Sony and Marvel made a deal to work together on several Spider-Man films, and it seems to have been a web-slinging hit. And Far from Home promised to offer a peek at what's ahead, which no doubt contributed to its high box office numbers. I'm guessing this decision wasn't easy for the Sony brass (it couldn't have been pleasant to essentially acknowledge that they didn't know what they were doing with one of their biggest characters), but it's paid off in a huge way: this summer's Spider-Man: Far From Home has now officially become not only the most lucrative Spider-Man movie ever, but the highest-grossing movie in Sony Pictures' entire 95-year history. Garfield's followup in 2014, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", earned $708.9M for the studio.

While he's always been a Marvel character in the comics, movie Spider-Man is a Sony Entertainment franchise character.

They also said Wednesday that they were sorry that some demonstrators became "easily agitated and overreacted". Airlines had still been trying to clear a backlog of more than 200 flights from Monday.

It's been a mutually beneficial relationship thus far, and there's no reason to think it won't continue to be fruitful in the next inevitable Spider-Man sequel.
