Black hole shock: Astronomers spy black hole SWALLOWING neuton star

At first, it looked like the objects were in the so-called "mass gap", meaning they were too small to be black holes and too large to be neutron stars. However, they were not directly observed until 2015 when LIGO (Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory) made a historic finding by detecting the gravitational waves created by a pair of colliding black holes.
Astronomers are confident that they've just detected the first black hole gobbling up a neutron star, with one slight but intriguing possibility that the swallowed object was a very light black hole-"much lighter than any other black hole we know about in the Universe". Neutron stars and black holes are the unimaginably-dense remains of dead stars.
In April, gravitational wave observatories in the USA and Europe reignited a search for extreme cosmic events.

The objects could be a neutron star binary; that is, the fiery merger between two neutron stars, which are the collapsed cores of massive stars. By studying these systems, "we can learn a lot about the physics that goes into forming neutron stars and black holes, so it's another step towards completing our understanding of how these binary systems evolve and form", Berry said. It could also be a black hole binary.
The types of waves that LIGO and Virgo detect are given off only by violent cosmic events such as supernova explosions and cataclysmic collisions. While this is not what the team discovered last week, it shows the fascinating way in which the ever-elusive black holes behave in our universe. Gravitational-wave astronomers can also study slight distortions in the signal detected by LIGO and Virgo, but, as Berry mentioned, this method is very hard. "The ANU SkyMapper Telescope responded to the detection alert and scanned the entire likely region of space where the event occurred, but we've not found any visual confirmation".
While the final results of their observations are yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal-and thus can not be confirmed-the scientists say that the gravitational waves likely originated from a black hole-neutron star merger due to the size of the two objects involved.
Two new accusers are filing a lawsuit against Jeffrey Epstein's multi-million dollar estate, according to The Daily News . Prosecutors have pledged to pursue cases against anyone else involved in Epstein's alleged crimes.
People in Hong Kong have been rallying against a bill that would allow the transfer of suspects to mainland China to face trial. CEO Rupert Hogg quit in a shock move last week after Beijing targeted the airline over staff involvement in the protests.
It was a second semi-final back-to-back, and then I won the semi-final against Richard [Gasquet], so it's another final. She earned match points with a flick volley victor angled steeply cross-court and amazed herself with the get.
People were seen attempting to catch the bouncing mattresses, however some managed to evade capture and enter the gated pool area. The air mattresses were set up for that night's show at The Bed Cinema, an outdoor movie showing at the Denver park.
Plot details on the film haven't been revealed, and given the ending of 2003's The Matrix Revolutions it's not a clear cut answer. This is huge news; not just a new Matrix movie, but one featuring the original cast and (some of) the original crew.
Almost half of Spain's provinces were on alert Sunday for high risk of fires, according to the country's weather agency AEMET. He added he had spoken by phone with Spanish acting prime minister Pedro Sanchez to request central government help.

Evelyn Hernandez hugs Teodora Vazquez, who had her sentenced commuted after 10 years in jail over an abortion. Amnesty International welcomed the verdict as a "resounding victory for the rights of women in El Salvador".
Home and Away star Ben Unwin dies
Another former castmate, Lynne McGranger, who plays Irene Roberts on the show, said Unwin's death was an bad shock. New South Wales police found Unwin dead on August 14, according to a statement, one day before his birthday.
