  • Facebook's new tool lets you see which apps and websites tracked you

The function shows users their "off-Facebook activity" - that is, the browsing activity that businesses and organisations share with Facebook about what apps and websites people visit.

Back in mid-2018, in the midst of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised that the platform will be gaining a privacy tool in "upcoming months".

According to Facebook, the users said that they want the facility to observe which sites are providing data to facebook and how this information was shared.

Facebook has launched the feature of "clear history" nearly a year after Mark Zuckerberg first promised at as a part of the efforts made for damage control post the Cambridge Analytica revelations. Doing so means that Facebook won't use information gleaned from apps and websites to target ads to you on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.

Wen Bin, chief economist at Minsheng Bank in Beijing, expected reductions in MLF rates to come next month. Some analysts expect that the PBOC will "soon" cut the MLF rates as its next move to lower loan rates.

It adds, martyr-like: "We expect this could have some impact on our business, but we believe giving people control over their data is more important". Facebook is rolling out Off-Facebook Activity in South Korea, Spain and Ireland, with plans to bring it to other countries soon after.

Gartner analyst and research vice-president Andrew Frank said most users are unlikely to disconnect their browsing data from their accounts, but even if they do advertisers shouldn't worry.

"

"How can I use Off-Facebook Activity to clear targeted ad information?"

". But Facebook, in a change of heart, now wants you to take control of ads that are shown to you.

If you've ever spent some time shopping online, then visited Facebook and been showered with ads for the items you were looking at, these are the tools responsible. Off-Facebook Activity simplifies this problem for the user. Speaking on a call with reporters, Stephanie Max, a product manager at Facebook explained that "this could have an impact on our advertising, because these signals are really powerful and important in personalising people's experience", the FT reported. Facebook stock was little changed after the announcement. This will help advertisers to continue designing their targeted marketing campaigns based upon the data collected from off-Facebook activities of users without actually know users personal details. So if you use the new tool to look at the data collected by those apps - and numerous websites you visit - you could be presented with a surprisingly large database. The introduction of the new tool is Facebook's latest response to criticism over how it safeguards users' privacy. While it doesn't make up for all the privacy issues that users have been complaining about, it's a step in the right direction. Users can then "disconnect" this information from their Facebook account, then choose to have all future off-Facebook activity disconnected from their account. The company said it was prepared for the consequences of users' deciding to exercise greater control over their privacy by using the tool.
