  • Putin says Russian Federation ‘will react accordingly’ after United States missile tests

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that a deadly blast at a military site in northern Russia earlier this month had taken place during the testing of what he called promising new weapons systems.

Putin, who was speaking during a visit to Helsinki, said that Washington could potentially use its launch systems in Romania and Poland to fire the missile and that Russian Federation would have to respond in an appropriate and reciprocal manner.

Speaking after talks Wednesday with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Putin argued that the quick test indicated the US had begun work on the missile long before declaring its intention to withdraw from the pact.

During a joint press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, here on Wednesday, Putin said the Russian government was "disappointed" to see the U.S. test the new weapon less than three weeks after Washington formally renounced the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, Efe news reported. He argued that the test indicated the USA began working on the missile long before declaring its intention to withdraw from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, which banned such weapons.

Trump said that other nations now are making very less efforts against the terrorists in Afghanistan. We wiped out the caliphate 100 per cent. "I don´t think so".

On Aug. 2, the USA formally withdrew from the nuclear pact, following a months-long war of words between Moscow and Washington. "We are not hiding this", Putin said.

Some U.S. officials have said they believe radioactive elements were involved, and many analysts have focused attention on a nuclear-powered cruise missile that Putin announced was under development previous year.

Last Sunday, the U.S. successfully tested a ground-launched version of a Navy Tomahawk cruise missile.

"Launches of this missile can be carried out from (launch) systems already located in Romania and Poland". It is enough only to change the software [for a new type of launch]. Al lit takes for the USA to launch their missiles from Romania and Poland is software change, Putin stated and added that, "I'm not convinced that our American friends will inform our European partners what software is installed in their systems". "For us, this means that there are new threats to which we must respond accordingly", Putin said, according to the Kremlin website.
