A man is dead after he was crushed by a NY elevatory Thursday morning.
The victim, identified by authorities only as a 30-year-old man, was said to be getting off in the lobby of his home on Third Avenue near 26th Street in Kips Bay just before 8:30 a.m. when the elevator malfunctioned, falling and trapping him between the vehicle and the elevator's shaft wall. That left the man trapped between the elevator auto and the shaft wall, officials said.
Video of the scene showed emergency crews peering down the shaft of where Waisbren became stuck.
Waisbren was exiting the elevator at the lobby-level when the vehicle dropped toward the basement, causing him to become stuck between the elevator auto and the shaft wall on the first floor.
"Some people were still left down in the vehicle after it moved down in the basement", Arpaia said.

The New York Times reported that inspectors have found that a safety feature on one of the elevators in the building had been disabled or tampered with and recommended that the building stop using that particular elevator until the issue is addressed.
The city's Buildings Department is now leading the investigation to determine what caused the fatal incident. City records did not show that it had been fixed. On Wednesday, the other elevator had been shut down, according to the outlet.
