His grandfather, father and brother were all members of the NYPD, and while Money initially meant to follow them into the force he instead moved to the Bay Area in 1968 to become a musician.

There, he changed his name, met the legendary promotor Bill Graham, who eventually became his manager, and landed a contract with Columbia Records. Ironically, when Eddie Money first came out, I went down to Manhattan at this club I hanged out at and unbeknownst to me Eddie Money was performing. "Who knows? It's in God's hands", he said.

Just previous year, Ace Frehley covered Money's '80s hit "I Wanna Go Back", telling us, I've been an Eddie Money fan since "Two Tickets to Paradise".

His self-titled debut album, released in late 1977, spawned the top 20 hit Baby Hold On and the top 40 hit Two Tickets to Paradise, both staples now of classic rock radio formats. I'll take every day I can get. "I've had more fun in that town than I can ever tell you", Money told the Tribune-Review ahead of the concert. In 1987, he received a best rock vocal Grammy nomination for "Take Me Home Tonight", which featured a cameo from Ronnie Spector. It reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1988.

However, his outstanding music career nearly didn't happen.

On top of touring, Money also made a foray into television appearances in the 1990s and 2000s, such as his cameo on the show "King of Queens" in 2002, as well as a stint portraying the character Mimi's ex-husband on "The Drew Carey Show". Money's comments appear in a video released from his AXS TV reality series "Real Money". His death comes only one month after he announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. Money was 70 years old.

Just this year, he underwent a minor heart valve procedure in May and came down with pneumonia in July.
