  • The Brexit Party takes control of council in Hartlepool

Hartlepool becomes the first council under the control of the Brexit party in the north-east of England, where Nigel Farage is fighting hard to make inroads.

Boris Johnson is hoping his robust stance on Brexit will help him snatch seats from Jeremy Corbyn in his party's northern heartlands at an election.

In return it wanted the Tories to avoid running in 90 Leave-voting constituencies that have never backed the Conservatives and supported the Brexit Party in the European elections.

He promised to establish a new ministry that would deliver better wages, greater job security and give workers more of a say over how their workplaces are run.

"The Conservatives will take a real kicking from November 1 onwards", Farage added. "Absolutely not" was Boris Johnson's answer.

He added: "My experience on the doorstep tells me most of those who've deserted us over our Brexit policy did so with deep regret and would greatly prefer to come back; they just want us to take an unequivocal position that, whatever happens, we'll fight to remain, and to sound like we mean it".

Trump says John Bolton 'was holding me back' on Cuba and Venezuela
Trump also slammed Bolton for his staunch support of both United States invasions of Iraq. " He was holding me back! ". I thought he was way out of line and I think I've proven to be right, ' Trump said.

However, the prime minister hasn't bitten on the offer, with word coming from his spokesman at lunchtime on Wednesday that he wouldn't be doing a deal with Farage.

Mr Johnson argues that an election is now the only way to break the deadlock over Brexit, but MPs have twice rejected his call to hold one.

United Kingdom opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said the Labour Party's first priority is to stop a no-deal Brexit, and then trigger a general election. He claims the only way Labour can win the election is by uniting Remain-backing voters who are now split between the party and the Liberal Democrats.

Johnson's push for an early election was thrown out before parliament was suspended for five weeks.

"My sense is that he (Johnson) comes back to the House of Commons and tries to get that through", he said.
